In his first start since September 2010, Johan Santana, pitched five innings of two-hit ball, and the Mets beat the Braves 1-0.

David Wright drove in the only run of the day, and the Mets revamped bullpen strung together four shutout innings.

It wasn’t all good news for the Mets, as they saw their starting center fielder, Andres Torres, leave the game with a calf strain. Since most Mets fans didn’t know Andres Torres was the starting center fielder, the injury didn’t seem to dampen the mood at the stadium.

    Santana Gets Opening Day Nod

The $137.5 million dollar man, Johan Santana will get the opening day start for the New York Mets.

Santana, who last pitched a major league game Sept 2, 2010, had a torn anterior capsule in his left shoulder. His road back to health has been long and tedious for him, and I’m sure for many Mets fans.

The rebuilding Mets would love a strong first half of the season so they could entertain trade offers for him at the deadline.
