    Close Call

    by  • April 4, 2012 • The Confusing • 0 Comments

I'll "smoke em" in the ninth

With Andrew Bailey on the shelf for what could be 4-5 months, the Sox needed someone to step into the closer roll.

Bobby Valentine announced today that that man would be Alfredo Aceves.

It’s an interesting call considering two factors: One, Mark Melancon has experience in the role, racking up 20 saves for the Astros last year. Two, Aceves proved to be a valuable swingman last season. He provided several valuable spot starts, as well as often acting as a one-man bridge from starter to closer.

Aceves may be the right call, but with people already questioning Bobby V’s judgement in general, you have to wonder if playing it safe with Melancon was the better call.

This Belt Might Need One More Notch

Stop treating me with kid gloves. I'm ready for the majors

Despite Brandon Belt hitting .397 this spring, the San Francisco Giants are leaning towards sending their star prospect down to triple-A for more seasoning.

It seems that Giants hitting coach Hensley Meulens has seen a flaw in Belts swing. “We know how he was pitched last season, and the things he struggled with. All we’re doing right now is making sure he’s prepared, if and when he’s back in the big leagues, he no longer goes through those struggles.”

It makes sense that the Giants would want to make sure Belt is 100% prepared for a full-time time job at the MLB level, but a team that struggles to hit like the Giants might not be able to afford that luxury.

Valentine To Announce Starting Rotation Sunday

    I like to cause trouble

It seems as though Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine has decided on the starting rotation, but will not reveal it until Sunday.

It will be interesting to see if the rumors of Valentines skepticism regarding converting Bard from relief pitcher to starting pitcher are true. Even if Bard makes the rotation, we have a feeling this story is far from over.

    Alternate Sides In Miami

There's always parking at Jiffy Park

The Marlins new stadium in Miami is causing a stir for more than just the stupid “dancing statue” in center field.

The issue at hand is whether or not the Marlins should pay for the construction of parking lots for residents to use on game days. Neither the city, nor Fish ownership feel that they should foot the bill.
