    First Choice?

I told you to sit still, old man.

Opening night would’ve been a complete success if it hadn’t been derailed off the bat, by the depressing sight of frail and enfeebled Muhammad Ali appearance for the first pitch. The Champ shook violently throughout the ceremony, and the stunned crowd could barely bring themselves to cheer.

Jeffrey Loria has shown himself to be a ruthless profiteer many times over, but the selection of Ali was poorly thought out, at best, and totally shameless at worst. Of course it take’s two to tango. Ali’s people could’ve easily said ‘no’ to the request. It makes you wonder who’s calling the shots in his camp.

Either way, it was an upsetting way to restart baseball, as well as the Marlins franchise.

    Orioles In Midseason Form

I'll open my eyes when the season is over

Opening Day is about hopes and dreams. A time where all fans can, at least for a day, dream big.

Except maybe Baltimore Oriole fans. Yahoo sports is reporting that the Orioles lost their final spring tune up game to the State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota chapter. Yes that’s a community college.

Good luck to the rest of the 29 teams out there.

Justice Served? Jimenez Suspended 5 Games

There is a picture of a man who looks remorseful

Indians pitcher Ubaldo Jimenez has been suspended five games by MLB for intentionally throwing at Rockies SS Troy Tulowitzki.

Jimenez is scheduled to serve his suspension during the first week of the season unless he appeals the decision.

Although he maintains that he didn’t hit Tulowitzki on purpose this quote from him surely doesn’t help his case, “He was calling me names,” Jimenez said. “I already said I didn’t want to hit him. I had five walks. It’s not the first time somebody (was) hit.”

All we can say is that he is lucky that this isn’t the NFL or Roger Goodell might have banned him for the season.

"I take issue with your pitch location, sir!"

Tempers flared in the Rockies/Indians game yesterday after Ubaldo Jimenez beaned Troy Tulowitzki. It looked pretty intentional to us, and clearly the Rocks seem to agree.

It sounds like Ubaldo was quite the malcontent before being shipped out of Denver last season. While you’d expect some negative comments following an event like this, the article even contains criticism from the perennially pleasant Jason Giambi. That doesn’t say much for Jimenez as a teammate.

    Alternate Sides In Miami

There's always parking at Jiffy Park

The Marlins new stadium in Miami is causing a stir for more than just the stupid “dancing statue” in center field.

The issue at hand is whether or not the Marlins should pay for the construction of parking lots for residents to use on game days. Neither the city, nor Fish ownership feel that they should foot the bill.

    Phils Treat Pineda Like Pinata

    Stop asking about my velocity.

Brian Cashman’s biggest(both figuratively and literally) acquisition in quite some time, is starting to get folks in Yankeeland a little worried.

Getting beaten up by a solid Phils lineup, while still unable to get his fastball into the mid-nineties is one thing. Complaining of shoulder soreness is quite another. The 23-year old will head for an MRI today.

Pineda was already rumored to be the odd man out of Joe Girardi’s rotation when the Yanks break camp. Now, the Bombers have to be hoping that’s the least of his problems.

UPDATE: Yanks place Pineda on the 15-day DL with shoulder tendonitis.
